This year Collins Aerospace was proud to be selected to take part in the Army Warfighting Experiment (AWE). Given the circumstances arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, we were thankful that the AWE team were able to stay committed to achieving the event’s goals. It showed great resilience and ability to adapt, and ultimately ensured that the event was a great success for all.

So, what was AWE20?

The ultimate aim of the event was for the UK Army to identify how they can exploit developments in technology within the Agile Command, Control and Communication (Agile C3) space. We were privileged to work amongst other industry leaders and partners, in helping to deliver the capabilities that the AWE team had hoped to achieve.

Due to the multiple sensor platforms taking part in AWE20, the AWE team set us the challenge of helping them to manage the large volume of data being created as part of the exercises. Working with our industry partners, we were able to utilise SCi-Discover as the common data repository for all participants who wished to share their data across the UK Army’s AWE network.

The primary reason that the AWE team wished to set the challenge, was so that their users’ could have access to the data being captured, no matter where they were in the battle-space. Rightfully so, the UK Army have determined that in order to make informed decisions more rapidly, their teams need better ways to make sense of data, no matter where it is situated in the battlefield. We were delighted that the attending Collins Aerospace team were able to successfully demonstrate this to the AWE team using the SCi-Toolset.
