Highway assets, power and water utility infrastructure suffer from defects caused by weathering, vegetation encroachment, and general wear. Kent County Council, with the help of Collins Aerospace and Amey, are pioneering a new approach to inspection and issue resolution.
This trial approach is part of the ADEPT SMART Places Live Labs programme, and the plan will be to use the technology for highway inspections, but will also look at the effectiveness of capturing wildlife habitats, and understanding any future repairs to utility infrastructure.
Carol Valentine, highways project manager at Kent County Council, said “We’re excited to be working with this technology to understand the benefits it can bring to improving our services to people in Kent.”
Russell Coleman of Collins Aerospace had this to say on the project: “Kent CC are helping to pioneer an approach that we believe will transform public and private infrastructure inspection. The same technology and approach is going to help airport’s collect health information of their runways, rail operators diagnose and maintain their track infrastructure, and the list will grow as we expand the capability. It’s very exciting work that we believe will have a huge positive impact across the UK and further afield.”
If you currently use manual processes to inspect your infrastructure, and would like to be part of a new approach to detect and fix issues earlier and in a more cost effective way, then get in touch with us today.
