Rally for Heroes 2018 is a unique event, with every competitor covering a minimum distance of 2,280 miles in recognition of the 456 lives that were lost during the Afghanistan conflict.
Jim Pawson our Managing Director with his wife will be driving his UTC sponsored car in this year’s SSAFA Rally For Heroes event. Created in 2010, the SSAFA fundraising rally has already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and in 2018 the team hopes to raise a minimum of £100,000. 50 vehicles in just 10 days through 10 different countries; starting in the UK, through France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Austria, Germany and Luxembourg. All drivers are committed to raising money for SSAFA, they pay for all the events costs themselves, meaning every penny they raise goes to help the charity.
SSAFA is a brilliant charity and it believes that the commitment of our Forces and their families deserves lifelong support. So it provides practical, emotional and financial support to anyone who is serving or has ever served and their families. In 2016 they received 25,531 calls and emails to the SSAFA Forcesline contacts line and supported 38,978 people in the local community. They really do go the extra mile to help our current and ex service personnel and their families.
The 2018 Rally has the goal of raising over £100,000 and Jim’s target is £1,500. To do this Jim is going to run 3 UK half marathons with each one representing a Service. The fundraising and training has already started. Wish him luck!
